So I read Twilight... now what?
I realized that there are a LOT of young adult to adult readers that were captivated and had fallen in love with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. Whether you fell in love with the characters, the story, or the idea of vampires and supernatural in general, many of you will probably be returning to the bookstore, aching for something else after you've finished Breaking Dawn. While I cannot offer a comprehensive list of new series to read, I can suggest things that I've tried and loved, and maybe you'll love them too ♥

If you want to stick to the young adult genre, try these:

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare is as engrossing as Harry Potter with all the epic romance that Twilight offered. Features your favorite supernatural beings, from shadow hunters to vampires to werewolves and fairies. The Immortals series by Alyson Noel presents another epic couple, Ever and Damen, and the struggle they go through to hold onto their eternal love for each other. I could not rec these books enough, so give them a try!

If you want a little more darkness, a little more complexity and a lot more sex, try these:

JR Ward's The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is extraordinary. A vampire brotherhood, charged with taking down their enemies (lessers) and keeping the vampire population under the radar of humans. Each book features a different brother, and (to date) there are 7 stories (and brothers) to fall in love with. The sex is hot, the plots are intriguing (somewhat lagging in the middle books) but you will be rewarded if you stick all the way through :) And if you're not watching True Blood on HBO (or online), you need to at least pick up Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie's just your typical telepathic waitress who happens to fall in love with a vampire and suddenly, her life turns upside down. There's 9 books in the series so far and Harris signed a contract to bring out 3 more in the next few years. And after the season 2 finale this Sunday, you'll have something to do before season 3 ♥

What series/books did you turn to after Twilight? Any other good recs I can try??

I have never seen the movie but I've loved books long enough to know that they are ALWAYS better than the movie ;) His Dark Materials has been on my to-read list for a while... hopefully I'll read them soon!

Thanks bb :)

I REALLY enjoyed the first three books of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead (I haven't bought the fourth yet). To be completely honest, I was put off by the series name at first. I thought, "Vampire Academy? Really?!" I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it though. Rose is fierce as hell and the last book took a really unexpected turn.

I also enjoyed the Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray. The writing is amazing and I give her major praise for what she did at the end of the series.

I was thinking about giving that series a try but I wasn't sure... I think I thought the same thing you did lol ;) But I trust your judgement, so I'll pick up the first one at work soon.

And the Gemma Doyle series! I've been wanting to read that for ages... *sighs* it's a blessing and a curse, working at a book store! lol

I went right into the Sookie Stackhouse Series after Twilight. Love them to death. And I guess I don't have to tell you what I think about TMI.

I don't know if you've read Blood Ties. I read the first two books during the last two months. I really liked them. And as far as I know there'll be a third book in a couple of weeks.

Blood Ties.... who is the author of that series? For some reason I was thinking de la Cruz but that's the Blue Bloods series... lol all these vampire books! Get me all confused! I've worked in a bookstore for 6 years and I can't keep this stuff straight! lol

Monica, I got most of my initial recs from you so seeing you in this comm makes me squuuuuueeeee with joy <3 Evernight is on my list... I was drawn to The Tear Collector first for some reason, so maybe that will go fast.

And the Wake series is REALLY starting to catch on. Seriously, we just got in about 40 copies of it today and we never carry more than 10 or so. All these things to read and no time to read them in! LOL
